Textiles

Before starting the work, we must choose either the type of fabric that we use. There are several different textiles, we analyze the most popular.

To bordad cross stitch, we need our fabric has a tramacde threads cross each other, some are horizontal and others vertical. Looking at the material closely, we see that the threads are perfect frames.

Here we present the different types of fabrics that we can find.

MAT

Is a cotton fabric and the threads are in pairs. The way of working it, is to take four squares at each point, otherwise, if we did 1 x 1 would not cross.

Canvas

Very fine cotton fabric is used for knitting fabric pieces above that are not valid for cross stitch. Once the design we have chosen, deshilaremos the canvas. About this fabric is 1 x 1, we take a square of X.

AIDA or PANAMA

It is the most widely used material in this work. It is made especially for cross stitch. It is very easy to work on it since the plot is created by squares. The fabrics have different sizes and colors.

The higher the number of the fabric, the smaller the squares. We therefore selected design will be smaller. The different types of colors you can choose are: red, white, ivory, blue ...

To calculate the fabric required is to look at measures of the scheme and dividing by the number of squares that come in 1 cm. of fabric.

Example:

A pattern of 190 x 150 and with an aida fabric 16, the calculation would look like. (190x150x6) 190/6 = 31.6 cm. 150/6 = 25cm. Our work will measure 31.6 cm x 25cm and should always give a margin on each side.
