The feast of the Virgin is celebrated on December 12. The night before, the churches throughout the length and breadth of the country are filled with the faithful to celebrate a festival which they call "the mañanitas to Guadalupe" or serenade to the Virgin. The Shrine of Guadalupe, located on the hill of Tepeyac in Mexico City, is visited that day by more than 5 million people.
